The above thought is
a welcome one, but due to the trifles of life not many of
us can practice it, and those who do, live forever. These
very fundamentals have given shape to Kamineni Foundation:
a Non-profit, Service Organisation born out of Compassion,
Care and Empathy.
the Mission

spreading Light,
bringing Hope,
renewing Life.

the Facts
Drugs & Addiction
Drugs are chemical substances which on ingestion intoxicate
the user. In simple language drugs bring alterations in
the mood, mind and behaviour of the user leading to ill-health.
These affect the well being of body, mind, emotions and
relationships. Some of the most abused drugs are Alcohol,
Heroin(Brown Sugar/ Smack), Morphine, Pethidine, Cocaine,
Tranquillizers etc.
Addiction is an intense craving for, or loss of control
over alcohol / drugs. It is a chronic disease affecting
the patient physically, psychologically and socially.
An addict...
An addict is a person whose drinking or drug taking leads
to problems in his health, family relationships, employment,
financial position- and who, despite these problems continues
to abuse drugs as he feels helpless. However, it is treatable
at any stage in the life - cycle of the intoxicated person.
Consequences of addiction
Alcohol & Drugs make people dull, taking away their
enthusiasm and excitement in whatever they do. Drug abuse
causes problems that reach far beyond addicts themselves.
Addiction is a major cause of disrupted family life, automobile
and industrial accidents, poor job performance, and increasing
crime rates. It leaves an impact not only on the person
but also on his family and, the society.
the Programme
Treating the patient
Treating an intoxicated person is virtually rebuilding the
person, both mind & body.
The treatment is a residential, multi-disciplinary, therapeutic
programme involving a team of Psychiatrists, Psychologists,
Gastroenterologists, Physicians, Social Workers and Nursing
Staff. Initially, the Patient is admitted to the Medical
/ Gastroenterology Unit to treat the existing illness as
well as to deal with the withdrawal symptoms, which may
range from stomach cramps to delirium tremens. These are
a result of sudden stoppage of the alcohol / drugs.
After stabilizing the physical condition of the patient
he is then shifted to the Psychological Therapy Unit. A
Meditation Centre provides for the relaxation and stress
management.
Educating and counselling the Family
Addiction is an illness that not only affects the individual
but, also leaves it’s impact on his family members.
The family members suffer from severe stress, living with
the person. Hence, the family also needs help and emotional
support which are an integral part of the treatment programme.
Social support programme aims at exploring possible support,
the recovering patients can receive from the society and
utilising it towards their recovery. Contact with the family
members helps in stabilizing recovery. On discharge the
patient’s are encouraged to meet the doctor and their
counsellors regularly to seek advice and to report on their
progress. |
